Igbo Group Guarantees 1M Votes For PMB

The New South East Peoples Consultative Parliament (NSEPCOP), has guaranteed President Muhammadu Buhari a minimum of one million votes in the South East zone in the forthcoming 2019 general election.

President General of the NSEPCOP, Udo Agoha stated this when he led its members on advocacy visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Abia State for the election, Ikechi Emenike in Umuahia, the capital.

“With our over three hundred members and still counting, we are convinced beyond doubt that this vision which will be of immense benefits to the political future of the people and the zone is very much achievable,” he said.

He noted that although the NSEPCOP is apolitical, its stand is based on “the tremendous positive impacts this APC-led administration has had on both the people and the zone since its inception in 2015.”

Continuing, he said, “This is contrary to what was obtained during the 16-year Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) era despite our massive support for the party at every election at almost every level.”

The leader of the Igbo socio-cultural group also explained that the advocacy includes enlightening the people that support for Buhari in the election remains their shortest route to Aso Rock Villa come 2023.

“Our agenda is to enthrone a president of Igbo stock in 2023. We cannot achieve this without throwing our support first behind the present occupant of the office if we plan to succeed,” the president general maintained.

According to the onetime Imo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources under Governor Rochas Okorocha, “Outside this we will have to wait for solid eight years for such opportunity to come our way again.”

While explaining that the scores of the delegates include both national and state chapters officers of the NSEPCOP, Agoha appealed to the Buhari Campaign Organization to assign a role to them in the project.

Similarly, National Political Adviser of the NSEPCOP and a senior lecturer with the University of Abuja, Dr. Promise Okoro said it will be in the best interest of Ndigbo that the president is reelected.

According to the political scientist, support for Buhari in the election, which he said he is sure the president will win will provide Ndigbo unhindered platform to contest the presidency with the backing of other zones.

He dismissed the insinuations in some quarters that Buhari dose not like Ndigbo, saying the message is being orchestrated by those who want to tarnish the political image of Ndigbo before other Nigerians.

Okoro queried “If that is true how come he contested the same office with Chuba Okadigbo, Edwin Umezoke, and Ben Obi as his running-mates in 2003, 2007, and 2011 respectively.”

In his response, Emenike appreciated them for joining forces with other Nigerians in the Buhari project, saying Buhari will defeat Atiku in a landslide even in his home state Adamawa and the entire North East zone.

Emenike, who reiterated the need for Ndigbo across the country to galvanish support for the project, reminded them of “the numerous infrastructure developments Buhari has delivered in the zone.”
