The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Command, on Thursday announced that any motorist found in possession of fake driver’s licence would pay a fine of N20,000.
The Sector Commander, Mrs Winifred Uche, announced this in Ibadan at a sensitisation organised for motorcyclists and tricycle operators in the state.
Uche urged all drivers to get authentic licences as it was the only document that qualified them to drive on the road, adding that the fine on the offence would be strictly enforced by the command.
On frequent accidents on Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway, particularly involving articulated vehicles, she attributed it to nonchalant attitude of drivers and bad road.
She said that the Corps had written to relevant agencies for what could be done to put the road in order to reduce crashes on it.
“The FRSC on its part recently lunched `Operation Safe Road’ which was to ensure that those articulated vehicles complied with the tenet of safe road.

“Some of those vehicles don’t have good tyres and do not put nuts on their containers; so, this is what the operation is out to address in order to mitigate road crashes,’’ Uche explained.
She urged all road users in the state to always abide by the rules and regulation so as to reduce road crashes.
The sector commander announced the shift of deadline for motorcycles and tricycles to obtain number plates and their operators to acquire driver’s licence from Aug. 1 to Oct. 2.
She said that the shift was to enable Board of Internal Revenue and other agencies involved in processing the documents at federal and state levels to put their houses in order, including getting enough number plates in stock.
She warned that the command would not tolerant excuses for non-compliance after the expiration of grace period, saying “those without number plate and driver’s licence by Oct .2 will be arrested.
“I advise you all to be well prepared and get the number plate and driver’s licence,’’ Uche said. (NAN)
