Ahead of the upcoming presidential election ,the governoship candidate of the opposition National Democratic Liberty Party ( NDLP ) in Borno state, Alhaji Lawan Grema has called on his supporters to vote for president Muhammadu Buhari.
Alhaji Grema as well assured the people of the state that his administration will revolutionize Agriculture if voted into power in the March 2nd governoship election in the state.
The NDLP governoship flag bearer said this on Tuesday in Maiduguri , while flagging off his campaign in Bulunku and Abuja Talakawa areas of Maiduguri, in Borno state.
The governoship hopeful lamented that despite the huge expanse of land the state is blessed with, the state government failed to utilize it for massive production of food for the teeming populace through mechanised farming.
He said if given the mandate, he will revive rice farming in all rice producing communities in Borno so as to fix it among rice producing states in the country.
He said despite his vying for the governoship seat on a different platform from president Muhammadu Buhari’s party, his love for the president stems from the fact that he has within the past three and half years achieved much than his predecessors especially, in the areas of dealing with boko haram insurgency, his stance against corruption and revival of the nation’s economy.
Mr Grema added that with the president’s ability to restore relative peace in Borno, there is no reason for the government not to embark on massive agricultural policies admist available hectares of land.
He said:” Borno is blessed with large expanse of land that would have been utilized by government, for massive food production through agriculture, but this has been neglected to a level where citizens depend on foods produced outside the state for survival.
” Teachers who are impacting knowledge to our children have been living in abject poverty because of poor salary structure, but if you cast your votes for me in the upcoming governorship election,I will ensure that teachers’ lost glory is restored, through improved salary structure.
” There is no way a teacher can give his best to the pupils and students while teaching on an empty stomach. We will also improve enrollment of school aged children in schools and provide free education , because education is in anywhere, the bedrock of development.
” As opposition Party, we have been criticizing the government in the state constructively, on how to improve the lives of citizens, but unfortunately , the government doesn’t have listening ears,” Alhaji Grema added.
He assured that with the second coming of president Muhammadu Buhari, God’s willing, he will work with the federal government for a final solution to the boko haram menace, and ensure that all the displaced people in the various IDPs camps are resettled home for a dignified life.
