Lagos State government yesterday asked the residents and workers in communities around the Olusosun dumpsite to temporarily relocate for safety and environmental reasons. Health experts had earlier said that continuous inhalation of poisonous smoke could result in lung infections and other strange ailments while it could also aggravate the health condition of asthmatic patients.

Bust speaking at an event to herald the launch of Vision Zero Incidence, the Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Hakeem Dickson, said the advice became necessary in view of the smoke which continued to rise from the dumpsite. Dickson adding that the residents needed to heed the advice in their own interest to escape the inhalation of the poisonous fumes. He said that when the smoke subsided, the residents could return home.
The DG added that with the launch of the Vision Zero Incidence, government was working towards ensuring zero incidents in the next three years. He said every necessary step would be taken to ensure that safety measures and precautions were strictly adhered to in line with the global best practice.
Dickson said one of the steps was Lagos Vision Zero Conference with the theme: “A Mindset Change Towards Zero Harm.” The move, according to him, is in conformity with the recent sensitisation by the Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation on “Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset.”
