Organisers unveil programme for Independence Day golf tourney

The Nigeria Cup is an event put in place to mark the nation’s Independence day celebrations and this year’s challenge will be at the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938.

Participants in this year’s Nigeria Cup, which tees off this weekend, are in for one of the most exciting times in the golf calendar, the organisers have said.

The Nigeria Cup is an event put in place to mark the nation’s Independence day celebrations and this year’s challenge will be at the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938.

The organising committee told reporters in Lagos on Wednesday that a lot of exciting programmes has been lined up for the event, which is the 21st in the series.

Speaking at the pre-tournament briefing, Chairman, 2017 Nigeria Cup Committee, Brigadier-General Musbau Amolegbe (Rtd) said there was the need to celebrate the nation in spite of the challenges facing it, adding that was why his committee lined up lots of exciting event for this year’s competition.

“It is true that the nation is facing lots of challenges, yet we have to celebrate because there is no nation that has not gone through these stages at some point in the life,” he said.

He revealed that this year’s competition will formally tee off tomorrow with the Children’s Clinic, while Caddies will take their turn on the course of Monday.

“On Tuesday, the Ladies will have their day on the course with invited guests from sister clubs, while Wednesday September 27th is for a special 4-clubs kitty.

“On Thursday, the professionals will have the way on the golf course. N3m is staked in the pro-event with players selected based on their performance on merit list. Friday, September 28th is for Guest and Sponsors.

“Saturday is the Grand Finale. Expected on the course are those who scale through the pre-qualifiers, which held earlier on August 26 and those who because of their handicap automatically qualified to play. Sunday, October 1 is the Gala Night and Prize presentation. It is the day prizes would be given to winners and gift to sponsors,” he explained.

Nigeria Cup is organized under the auspices of Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association (IGCNA).
