15 Oyo Internet Fraudsters Sentenced To Jail, Community Service

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secured the conviction of 15 Internet fraudsters in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement on Thursday, said the Ibadan Zonal Command of the agency prosecuted the cases, adding that judgments were delivered on Wednesday.

The anti-corruption agency identified the convicts as Faruq kayoed, Jimoh Olowogaba, Farouq Olamide, Mayowa Ajileye, Dayo Ogundayo, Ayodeji Dada and Wasiu Anuoluwapo.

Others are Sodiq Idris, Ogoluwa Olasupo, Adeyemi Ekundayo, Odeku Titobioluwa, Oyebisi Olalekan, Boluwatife Akinniyi, Samson Ojo, Adegbemi Akanfe and Habeeb Abdullahi.

The EFCC spokesman said they were prosecuted before Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, and Justices Ladiran Akintola and Sherifat Adeyemi of the Oyo State High Court on a separate one-count charge of impersonation.

The defendants pleaded guilty to the charge brought against them.

Justice Agomoh sentenced Ogundayo to nine months’ jail term, Dada, Anuoluwapo and Akinniyi to eight-month imprisonment each, while Olalekan and Ojo were sentenced to seven and three-month imprisonment, respectively.
Justice Akintola sentenced Abdullahi to 24-month imprisonment, Olasupo and Ekundayo, 10 months each, while Ajileye was jailed for six months.

Justice Adeyemi sentenced Idris and Akanfe to six months of community service, while Odeku was sentenced to five months of community service.

Jimoh and Bashiru were sentenced to three months of community service each.

The convicts were ordered to make restitution to their victims and forfeit the items recovered from them to the Federal Government.
