The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PPCO) has refuted the claim that a purported director general in the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign for the Northeast decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PPCO, in a statement, said it is unfortunate that, in the desperation to deceive Nigerians and create an impression that he is recovering from his diminished popularity, President Buhari would descend to sponsoring fake news in the social media.

The statement, signed by PPCO’s director on media and publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan said, for the avoidance of doubt, their campaign organisation does not have a director general in the Northeast as claimed in the malicious tweet.

“Our campaign structure only has zonal coordinators and our zonal coordinator in the Northeast is Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State.

“Moreover, Senator Saidu Kumo, who President Buhari is celebrating, as having dumped the Atiku Abubakar campaign to join his re-election bid, has never had anything to do with our presidential campaign and has never been assigned any role, as nobody with corruption case is allowed any role in our campaign structure.

The PPCO further urged Nigerians to disregard the claims by the Buhari Presidency and henceforth not rely on, but always thoroughly examine all information coming from the Buhari Campaign Organisation as they have proven to be purveyors of fake news.

It also assured all Nigerians, particularly its supporters in the Northeast that the “Presidential Campaign structure is completely intact and rallying with Nigerians in their national consensus to vote in Atiku Abubakar as the next president of Nigeria.

“No amount of fabrications by the Buhari Presidency can change this reality.”
