Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, have ordered the arrest of two policemen for allegedly gambling and collecting bribes.
The policemen were arrested yesterday while counting bribe money and smoking near a bank at Opebi, Ikeja area of the state. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chike Oti, disclosed this in a statement.

He said: “The attention of the state Police Command has been drawn to the news making the round on social media that policemen received bribes and they were smoking. “Based on the allegation, the commissioner of police has ordered the arrest, detention and trial of the policemen.”
Meanwhile, preliminary investigation into the case has revealed that the policemen were not counting money they received as bribe as alleged but coupons they collected from gambling. “The men are currently facing disciplinary action that could lead to reduction in their ranks or dismissal.
The commissioner of police, however, said it is wrong to engage in such distracting activity while on duty. “The police commissioner encourages members of the public to always expose, albeit accurately, undisciplined and unprofessional policemen,” Oti added.
