The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency are determined to get Benue State back into the APC fold through the 2023 General Elections and have therefore vowed to do everything lawful to see that the APC Governorship Candidate in Benue, Rev. Fr. Dr. Iormem Hycenth Alia, floors the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Samuel Ortom who leads the PDP in Benue.
Towards the above-stated outcome, sources in Benue APC told The Dream Daily Newspaper that two APC governors from the North-West, Malam Nasiru el-Rufai of Kaduna State and Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State have been detailed to work with Benue APC and Alia, who is new to the gubernatorial contest.
Also, sources said the APC leader in Benue North Central, Sen. George Akume, has received the marching order from the Presidency to wrestle Benue from Ortom and the PDP next year.
However, sources also claimed that Governor Ortom has been making overtures to Akume to dump the APC and work for the PDP in the Benue governorship race.
One of our sources who pleaded anonymity stated: “The Presidency, Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai as well as Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari are strongly behind Rev. Fr. Alia now. You know Ortom has spent time fighting President Muhammadu Buhari without doing anything to better the life of Benue people. Now Buhari wants to use the 2023 governorship election to put smile on the people of Benue State through the election of the APC governorship candidate in Benue, Rev. Fr. Alia. They are doing everything possible to support him. The court cases instituted against Alia have been settled for him to contest the election. Just watch what will happen in the near future. APC campaign in Benue State is being sponsored by those who mean well for the state.
“Governor Samuel Ortom wanted to work with Sen. George Akume to deny Alia of victory in the 2023 governorship election in the state. But things have moved beyond Akume now. Akume has been given the marching order from the Presidency not to misled Benue again come 2023.”
Alia is from Jechira intermediate axis in Benue, an area known for producing clerics as governor in the state. In 1993, Late Rev. Fr. Orshio Adasu was elected the second civilian governor of Benue from Jechira.
