Cross River chapter of the Social Democratic Party SDP has rejected the results of the just concluded elections conducted by INEC in Central Senatorial District of the state on Saturday February 23, to be cancelled.
The party’s leadership claims that its logo was not on the ballot papers distributed across various polling units in the six local government areas that comprise the Central Senatorial District.
SDP drew attention of Independent National Electoral Commission to the missing logo so that the omission could be rectified unfortunately INEC officials failed to include the party logo.
The Electoral umpire went ahead and conducted the election, a development which denied candidate for the SDP Solomon Esor, the opportunity to be voted for and disenfranchising the party’s supporters.

The returning officer for the Central Senatorial District election, Prof Eyong Ubana, had declared Prof Sandy Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party as winner of that election.
Onor secured 80,126 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Senator Victor-Ndoma Egba who polled 60,298 votes.
The SDP candidate, Esor, rejected the result and called for its cancellation.
Esor expressed dismay and wondered why he was schemed out from the race even when same INEC cleared him for the fierce battle to enable him campaign for the election and wondered why the SDP’s logo was still omitted, and threatened to seek redress at the court of law.
In his words Esor said, “We had earlier written to INEC when we discovered that my name was published on the Northern Senatorial list and the Central. The national secretariat immediately wrote to INEC in a letter dated January 25, 2019 and addressed to national chairman of the commission.
“In spite of that the mistake was not corrected on the ballot paper as our logo was again omitted and our supporters couldn’t exercise their franchise,”.
