South African runner, Nkomo narrates experience at Access Bank Lagos City Marathon

The South African had participated in marathons outside Africa including The Tokyo, Berlin, Chicago and Paris Marathon, with the hope of attending the London Marathon later this year.

She said in a letter addressed to organisers of the Access bank Lagos City marathon, which was made available to The InfoTrust yesterday that she enjoyed every bit of the race, adding that she would mobilise more South Africans to participate in the 2020 edition.

“The route is great and the weather is forgiving,” Cindy Nkomo said. “The water stations were all manned, vibey, and had enough water. I had the best experience overall and I look forward to running it again next year.

“As a young race, there is still room for improvement but I have no doubt that with Access Bank continued support and all the other sponsors, those minor issues will be sorted. If the 2020 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon witnessed more runners from South Africa, then the reasons won’t be far fetch.”

Cindy, a member of one of the biggest social running club in South Africa, the fat cat running club, started running with the purpose of losing weight before it became a way of life and a recreation activity.

The 40 years old was part of the over 40,000 international runners, and like few others runners, her aim was not the podium but the feelings of participation and healthy living.

With Bib number 45, Cindy finished the 42km race in 4hrs, 45 minutes at a pace of 6:35km.
