Main Text: 1 Kings 17:14
This message is dedicated to Pastor Bakare’s co-labourers – to everyone that had steadfastly served God and the nation, and it is built as a memorial before God.
In recent times, God has been presented as the One who breaks His record of goodness in the life of His people, either in His provision for them or His promoting them, or His overall protection of them against their enemies.
In all these dimensions of God’s goodness, no one can put God in a box. What God had done before, He can do again in different ways and forms. Two examples, two prophets and two widows in the Bible will suffice to explain this phenomenon, Elijah and Elisha.
Elijah asked a widow to prepare a meal for him with the little oil remaining in the widow’s house. The miracle of the day was that the jar of oil would not dry up until the Lord sends rain and it was so. That is God’s guaranteed continual provision. When God was about to perform a similar miracle through Prophet Elisha, He instructed the widow to borrow as many vessels as she could and keep pouring the oil in the vessels until they were all filled up. In one instance, God performed a continual miracle until it rained while in the second instance, it was a one-of miracle. (1 Kings 17: 14; 2 Kings 4: 7).
All promises of God’s goodness are conditional. The essential condition is our obedience. When we obey God, we cooperate with Him to do what He wants to in our lives. But when you hijack the process and embrace the demonic doctrine of “heaven helps those who help themselves”, you will shoot yourself in the foot, sabotage your destiny and short circuit the process. (Philippians 2: 12-13, 1 Thessalonians 5: 22-24).
If God is going to use you in any capacity, He knows how to make way for you. You don’t have to struggle. (Hebrews 13: 20-21).
