Nine women were on Sunday intercepted by operatives of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to prevent their being trafficked outside the country.
The NIS in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Sunday James, said the womenwere arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
He said they were to be trafficked through the airport to Lebanon, Cairo, Dubai and India on Ethiopian, Peace, Egypt and East Airlines.
“Four of them claimed to be traveling to take up employment without knowing their employers, neither were they aware of the nature of job they were going for,” James said.
James said the suspicious journey was organised by agents who were intent on exploiting the women’s innocence and ignorance.
He said that two other women claimed they were going for a visit but later confessed they were going to “hustle” in Dubai.
Another two said they were yellow fever patients and were going to India for medical treatment. On further interrogation, it was found they had no referrals, James said.

The statement noted that the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service Muhammad Babandede called on parents to be wary of apparently juicy offers to their children by family members and non-family members to take their children abroad.
“The operatives at the various entry and exit points will never permit them departure, and if they so appear in an attempt to beat security, they will continue to be arrested in our stepped-up clearance operation that is yielding positive results in the various arrests made around the borders of the country by NIS,” the statement asserted.
