Police Promise Professionalism, Neutrality During Polls

The Kwara State Police Command has explained the rationale behind heavy deployment of policemen and officers for today’s presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

The spokesman of the state police command, Ajayi Okasanmi, said the heavy deployment of policemen is to ensure security of the electorate and other residents before, during and after the elections.

He said the tight security is not aimed at intimidating voters, adding that law-abiding citizens have nothing to worry about.

Okasanmi disclosed that a total number of 5,000 officers and men of the command have been deployed to ensure security during the elections.

He said that the policemen would be assisted by officers and men of other sister security organisations in the state.

Okasanmi, who said that the command was ready for the conduct of the election, said that the heavy deployment of policemen is to ensure credible, free and fair election in the state.

It is gathered that about 21 truck load of army officers, senior officers of the DSS and police had been deployed to the state for the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

The security operatives’ convoy was spotted along Gambari- Okelele road on Thursday, though their destination remained unknown.

Okasanmi, however, refused to comment on deployment of army officers for the election.
