Activist Joe Okei-Odumakin has urged the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, to ensure justice is served on the death of a Master’s student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke.
Okei-Odumakin, who is the President, Women Arise & Centre for Change, made this known in a statement on Monday titled, ‘#JusticeForTimothy; Women Arise demands justice on the mysterious death of Mr Timothy Adegoke’.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that the student died in controversial circumstances where he lodged at Hiltons Hotels and Resorts, Ile-Ife, to sit for an examination. He was subsequently buried by the hotel management in a shallow grave without the knowledge of his family or the police.
The owner of the hotel, Dr Ramon Adedoyin, and five others have been arrested for complicity in the case while his son, Raheem, who is the Managing Director of the hotel, is at large after a suspect confessed that he supervised the hurried burial of the deceased student.

An autopsy result into the cause of the death of the student is still being expected as of press time even as the case has been transferred to Abuja.
In her statement, Okei-Odumakin expressed shock at the death of Adegoke and “call on the relevant security agency concerned, the Nigerian Police under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, to leave no stone unturned as we can confirm that such unholy circumstances leading to the death of a citizen who is expected to enjoy the protection of the hotel he lodged in has drawn the attention of international human rights watch organisations and we are expected to prove our mettle as a society of justice, no matter whose ox is gored.”
We also appeal to the local, state and federal agencies concerned with the matter to ensure that their duties are discharged without having their hands soiled as, ‘injustice somewhere is a threat to justice everywhere,’ to quote Martin Luther King Jr.
We will continue to closely monitor events around the ongoing investigation into the death of Timothy, as we remain committed to ensuring that justice is served and that such unfortunate incident is not witnessed again in our society.
