Taiwo Oluyale, a 2020 graduate of Federal University of Technology, Akure, with a CGPA of 4.89, stated that she was surprised when to be named the school’s valedictorian.

After the school’s convocation ceremony last Friday, Taiwo and her twin sister, Kehinde Oluyale, went viral on the internet as the duo emerged as the top of their class in the Department of Building Technology.
As Taiwo emerged as the valedictorian, her sister, Kehinde, followed closely with a 4.82 CGPA.

In a recent post on her LinkedIn page, Taiwo revealed that she was surprised that she was named the valedictorian because she had never competed to be the best.

“I was surprised to be named the Valedictorian because I never competed to be the best, I only strive for perpetual excellent and fortunately other things were added to me,” she said.

She also added that at a time in school, she missed classes for over two months due to ill health.

Taiwo said, “In retrospect, I remembered how I was totally away from school for more than two months. Myself, my parents, doctors, and colleagues were all so scared and worried.
“I cried on several occasions that God should heal me so I can return to school. I never gave up hope, I was determined.

“I eventually returned to school to do marathon reading, submitted all assignments, did some make-up test and wrote the exam for that semester. It was the most challenging period of my life.

Giving a word of advice, she said, “In everything you do, try as much as you can to deliver the utmost quality, regardless of whether it is school or workplace or home.”
