The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has banned voters from wearing political parties’ shirts with logo and shouting of political parties’ slogan at polling units during the Saturday’s presidential and the national assembly elections.
The Police has also said it will arrest unaccredited security personnel and VIPs moving from one place to another during voting hours, adding that they had made adequate provision for three security personnel per-polling unit.

Speaking at a briefing for domestic and foreign observer groups accredited for the 2019 general elections, held at Aso Hall, International Conference Centre, the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu while speaking on the security arrangements forthe polls, said since politicking ends 24 hours before the voting, anyone found shouting party slogan, party name or wears a political party Shirts will be arrested.
The police chief said no VIP is allowed to move from one polling unit to another with security personnel without tags during the voting hours. While promising that his officers will abide by the provisions of the electoral act and the code of conduct for the election, the acting IGP said they will always seek clearance from INEC before taking an action during the election conduct.
Adamu who gave vivid description of the threat analysis the Nigeria Police conducted concerning the hots spots in the country, said three security personnels will be provided for each polling unit.
“We have done a threat analysis of the whole country. Flash points have been mapped out. Individual or group that may likely cause mayhem have already been identified and will be monitored.”
