President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments across key institutions in Nigeria’s education sector, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the National Library of Nigeria, and the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State.
The appointments were disclosed on Wednesday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, President Tinubu appointed Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while retaining the current Registrar, Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi.
In another key appointment, Bongfa Binfa was named Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State. He succeeds Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended on March 16, 2026. Binfa’s appointment is for a single term of five years following a competitive selection process initiated in September 2025.

The President also renewed the tenure of Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term. Anunobi, first appointed in September 2021, has overseen reforms aimed at modernising the institution, including digital initiatives such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.
For the NBTE, President Tinubu appointed Babatunde Salako as Chairman. Salako, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), is credited with strengthening research capacity and expanding international collaborations during his tenure from 2016 to 2024.
The President had earlier, on April 10, 2026, reappointed Idris M. Bugaje as Executive Secretary of NBTE for a second and final five-year term.
Providing background on the new NECO chair, the statement noted that Adelabu is a retired professor of educational administration from Obafemi Awolowo University and a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State. She also previously served as Chairman of NBTE between 2018 and 2021.
The Presidency said the appointments are aimed at strengthening governance, ensuring continuity, and advancing ongoing reforms across the nation’s education institutions.
