Lagos Directorate of Vehicle Inspection Service, VIS said it is taking a stiffer measure towards checkmating vehicles that are in bad state and constituting nuisance to the roads.
Speaking with INFOTRUST at his office, the VIS boss, Engr Gbolahan Toriola said with the computerized vehicle inspection service device, an initiative that was launched early in the year, all vehicles that are in bad condition would be detected, tracked and impounded.
He said for the road worthiness, vehicle’s parts for inspection would include braking, steering, emission testing, axles wheels, visibility, chasis and chasis attachments, lighting system and alignment. Others are headlights, tyres and suspensions.

“This test will be aggressively carried out and we will ensure that any vehicle that falls short of the expected condition will be impounded.”
Explaining how the device runs, he said “any vehicle that is found wanting in any of the highlighted parts, once the device is placed under the vehicle it is detected and if the driver absconds, he will be stopped in a very short distance. This means our officers won’t need to be running after drivers, whose vehicles are not road worthy.”
He added that supplementary test for vehicles carrying passengers would be carried out.
He noted that two out of the 10 centres in the state, where drivers can test their vehicles road worthiness, have commenced full operation.
The VIS boss further urged all vehicle owners to bring their vehicles for the computerized inspection, noting that private vehicles are to be inspected once every year and commercial vehicles twice a year.
